My marriage to The Professor is perfectly healthy, but sometimes I long for a companion of a different sort. You know the type: They’re there for you on cold rainy days when all you want to do is curl up on a comfy chair with a cup of tea or cocoa. They don’t argue, fuss, or talk balk, and they let you hold them the way you like to do it.
A good book can be the perfect date.
Apparently the folks at Cecil County Public Library feel the same way I do. They’ve rolled out a new reader’s advisory service called BookMate. Patrons submit their answers to a book preference questionnaire either online or in person, and within a week they receive an email with at least 4 personalized book recommendations. According to the Fall ’09 issue of The Crab (the publication of the Maryland Library Association) the Cecil County Public Library has matched up 150 patrons with their preferred book companions since January. Check out the Cecil County Public Library website (which is cool enough in its own right) for more details.
